The Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) Basic RiderCourse is a learn-to-ride education and training safety program that consists of the online MSF Basic eCourse to address basic motorcycle knowledge, 5 hours of classroom instruction with 10 hours of on-cycle, hands-on instruction. Students who successfully complete the RiderCourse receive a completion certificate. The DOT skill test is waived for anyone who has a completion certificate. The course is required for students 16-18 years of age to obtain a Class L license. A course completion card may provide an insurance discount. Riders must be able to balance a bicycle to participate in the riding portion of the course, and a riding skills test and written test must be passed for successful completion. No refunds are issued to students failing to successfully complete the class. (See Motorcycle Rider Course Refund Policy)

The eCourse must be completed online prior to coming to class using a unique code assigned to each student. Approximately two weeks prior to class, NIACC Continuing Education will send each student their unique code along with instructions to complete the eCourse (allow a minimum of three hours to complete). A certificate will be issued when the eCourse has been successfully completed. Students must print the certificate and bring to the first class. A short quiz over the eCourse material will be given at the start of the first class. Students must pass the quiz to continue with the RiderCourse. (See Motorcycle Rider Course Refund Policy)
