This two-hour course is designed for supervisors, department managers, HR personnel and anyone else responsible for supporting a drug free workplace. While the class can be taken as a review, it fulfills the initial training requirement of Iowa code Section 730.5 (see below).
Employees will learn the importance of understanding and consistently enforcing your company's substance abuse policy; the elements of a comprehensive substance abuse policy; reasonable suspicion and recognizing observable behaviors that may mean an employee is impaired by alcohol and/or drugs; scenarios that illustrate procedures for confronting an employee who may be impaired; common alcohol and drug testing procedures; and the signs, symptoms, and effects of substance abuse.
This proactive approach to training will provide your employees with the tools needed to help avoid the high costs of increased absences, errors, near-miss incidents and accidents caused by impaired employees.
Under Iowa law, private sector employers that conduct drug or alcohol testing “must provide supervisors with a minimum of two hours of training initially & one hour of training each year subsequently.” (See Iowa Code Section 730.5 for detailed information & guidance.)
