« back to classes page
A fun workshop that combines the reading and discussion of selected works of poetry with writing exercises designed to help in the development of one’s own unique voice as a poet. In this workshop, we will practice using words to create tone and style within a poem through precise and active word choices, using lyrical and figurative language to create poetry with complex meaning, work on conveying sensory details through writing to create poetry that is filled with vivid images and use sentence and line structure to control the flow, pacing and direction of poems. In addition, we will be exploring several different patterned types of poetry including Quatrain, Diamante, Septolet, Senryo, and Kyrielle. There will be opportunities each session to share works and discuss poets and poems that hold a special interest to those attending the workshop.
