This course follows the course on The Churches and the Holocaust although it is not necessary to take that course first. We will first briefly assess historical relations between Christians and Jews, including touching upon the response of churches in the Nazi era to the persecution of Jews and the Holocaust. We will then look at the encounter between Jews and Christians after the Holocaust and the efforts to engage in dialogue. We will note the theological shifts among certain churches, particularly via Vatican II in the Roman Catholic Church, and then take note of some of the pioneering personalities involved in this work, concluding by looking at some of the women who spent their lives on these efforts.
