« back to classes page
The Battle of Midway was a pivotal battle in the Pacific during World War II in which Imperial Japan had hoped to establish a defensive perimeter in the Pacific to prevent American power from impeding its expansion in Asia and other Pacific Islands. The attack on Pearl Harbor on Dec 7th, 1941 did significant damage to the American Navy but American aircraft carriers were not present at Pearl that day, and Japanese strategy had hoped to attack them from the strategic location at Midway Atoll. Unbeknownst to the Japanese Navy they would have the opportunity to meet them sooner than they thought and the famous battle of Midway would occur on June 4th-7th, 1942, with tremendous consequences for the rest of the war in the Pacific.
