Poetry can communicate before it is understood. (T.S. Eliot) During the four sessions of this workshop, students will have the opportunity to explore poems in some of many poetry texts which will be available in the class area, their personal collection, or at the public library. Class time will be spent reading poems either privately, with a friend, or sharing with the whole group. Poetry is best when it is read orally to detect the “music” of a poem, while the literal or figurative experience is personal. Participants may wish to compose a personal work or share an earlier composition. There is no right or wrong way to composing or interpreting poetry
"Poetry is… “—near the end of the workshop, you may want to complete this sentence or definition about how poetry works or affects your mind process.
