Birding In Your Iowa Yard

ID : 64
« back to classes page
The grace and beauty of birds is universally admired, but to many people it is the sheer freedom of birds that is most attractive. A bird’s ability to simply fly away at a moment’s notice can evoke in us both admiration and a deep longing. Some long distance migrants travel tens of thousands of miles every spring and every fall searching the world for just the right places to spend their seasons. Unfortunately, today’s world is less hospitable to birds than in the past, and many avian populations are in trouble. Habitat loss and climate change are taking a toll on their numbers. Land owners and even residential homeowners can do some simple things to help avian populations, and then enjoy their visits when successful.  The first session will provide information on how make your property more bird friendly, and the second session will give you tips on what to watch for once the birds come, and what to do if you see an interesting or rare bird.
