« back to classes page
A fun and informative workshop designed to break down the elements that make up an engaging mystery and guide authors into the construction of their own mystery. Working from the crime through the avenues it will take to solve it, the goal of this workshop is to introduce writers to the various types of mysteries and their requirements. In addition, the workshop will cover writing a gripping opening scene that will capture the reader’s attention, developing and maintaining elements of suspense throughout the story, planting hidden Easter eggs for the readers to find while the main characters remain oblivious, using setting to develop mood, creating a crime for the main character (s) to solve, making a list of clues they will need to find along the way, introducing ‘red herrings,’ and how to bring the story to a riveting and dynamic end.
